The San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants meet for game two of their series at Petco Park.
The San Diego Padres aren’t having a good season, but they had something to cheer about on Monday as they got the win. Nick Hundley hit a home run, Ronny Cedeno had two hits and Chris Denorfia had a hit, as the Padres scored four runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed five hits and a run over 6.0 innings to get the win and Huston Street earned the save. Robbie Erlin gets the starting nod on the mound on Tuesday and he is coming off a win in his last start. For the season, Erlin has a 2-2 record and a 5.97 ERA, but he is 1-2 in his last three starts with an 8.56 ERA.
The San Francisco Giants look to be playing out the string, as they just had nothing in the tank in getting beat by the Padres on Monday. Brandon Belt had two hits and Buster Posey, Hunter Pence, and Pablo Sandoval all had hits, as the Giants managed just one run on eight hits. Barry Zito allowed all four hits and all four runs lasting just four innings and taking his 11th loss of the season. For Tuesday’s game, the Giants start Madison Bumgarner, who has been their best starter this season as the starting rotation has been a major disappointment. For the season, Bumgarner is 11-9 with a 2.91 ERA, but in his last three starts he is 0-2 with a 4.42 ERA.
San Diego is 2-5 in their last seven games as a home underdog, 2-5 in their last seven games overall, and 5-1 in their last six games against a team with a losing record. San Francisco is 6-2 in their last eight games as a road favorite, 6-16 against a left-handed starter, and 0-5 in Bumgarner’s last five starts. San Francisco is 5-2 in the last seven meetings of these two.

Bumgarner hasn’t been good enough lately to overcome the Giants’ ineptitude, but he should get back to winning here.
