The New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox face off on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium for game two of their series.
The New York Yankees are still very much in the post-season race and after taking a damaging loss on Sunday to the Orioles they bounced back with a big win on Monday against the White Sox. Brett Gardener and Derek Jeter each had two hits and Robinson Cano, Alex Rodriguez, and Alfonso Soriano each had hits as the Yankees scored nine runs on 11 hits. Phil Hughes lasted just 1.1 innings but David Huff came in for long relief and got the win after allowing five hits and a run over 5.2 innings. For Monday’s game the Yankees start Hiroki Kuroda who has come unwound of late. For the season Kuroda is 11-10 with a 2.89 ERA but in his last three starts he is 0-3 with a 8.10 ERA.

The Chicago White Sox can’t wait until this season is over so they can just put it behind them and forget about it. On Tuesday the White Sox were no match for the Yankees as Paul Konerko hit a home run and Adam Dunn and Avisall Garcia were among those getting hits and the White Sox scored one run on seven hits. Jose Quintana lasted just an inning allowing two hits and a run but it was enough for him to take the loss even though it was Dylan Axelrod who was pounded for eight hits and eight runs over 2.1 innings. For Tuesday’s game the White Sox start Chris Sale who had tough luck for the first half of the season and now that he isn’t pitching as well he is getting wins. Sale is 2-1 in his last three starts with a 4.91 ERA and for the season he is 10-12 with a 2.99 ERA.
New York is 14-3 in their last 17 home games, 16-7 in their last 23 games, and 8-2 in Kuroda’s last 10 home starts. Chicago is 25-57 as a road underdog, 0-5 against a team with a winning record, and 2-5 in Sale’s last seven road starts. Chicago is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
Neither of these usually strong pitchers are at the top of their game so with my free pick I like the over. I also have a pick on the winning side and I will post that pick in the Premium Area.
