The Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins continue their series Wednesday at Wrigley Field.
If Miami has one thing going for them, it has been fairly good work by the rotation, which has been called upon to win games by their lonesome often. The flip side is that the team needs more scoring punch and getting both units on the same page hasn't been a strength. The Fish have been able to get their bats and arms going in winning three straight following a 6-2 victory at Wrigley Field Tuesday. Starter Tom Koehler lasted 4.1 innings with a pair of runs plated, with four relievers throwing zeros at Chicago. The Fish launched a 12 hit attack with Donovan Solano and Christian Yelich recording two RBI's each. The Marlins have plenty of young players on their roster and have called up left-hander Brian Flynn to make his major league debut versus the Cubs. Flynn probably will stay with the club and audition for a roster spot in 2014.

The Cubs season from a competitive standpoint has been over for quite some time with the National League Central being a three team race for the past few years, which is tough for the rest of the division. The Cubbies have gotten decent pitching and decent hitting at times, but their record says that hasn't happened often enough. Neither were strong Tuesday, with starter Edwin Jackson allowing three runs over five frames before Blake Parker allowed three more to put this one out of reach for the bats. It was tough to compete on the scoreboard on four hits and four free passes that saw Brian Bogusevic crack a solo bomb. Chicago sends right hander Jeff Samardzija to the bump, looking for his third win in four outings when he takes on Miami Wednesday. Samardzija has posted a 3.04 ERA in his last three starts and is 8-11 in 2013.
With no major league experience to lean on it's tough not to give the pitching edge to Samardzija, but one thing I don't do is lay big juice with this team so I'd rather do something small on the Marlins or walk away.
