The Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics continue their struggle for first in the West Wednesday afternoon.
The Rangers haven't been slumping, but losing three of four isn't a good thing in the American League West, especially when the front running Athletics are playing well. Texas stood tall Wednesday in a 5-1 victory over the A's, but now hope to build on this and go on a prolonged hot streak. That won't be difficult to do if both the bats and arms perform as they did Tuesday, with starter Martin Perez allowing a single run on eight hits over seven innings. The bats made that a winning performance with a 13 hit, three walk attack that saw Alex Rios and Mitch Moreland club long balls. Texas is scheduled to send Yu Darvish to the mound to hurl the Rangers past Oakland Wednesday. Darvish has generally been a tough customer with an overall record of 12-6 with a 2.73 ERA.

Oakland has gone back and forth with the Rangers for the lead in the American League West in a race that seems destined to be decided in the final days of the season. The Athletics saw their four game winning streak come to an end at the hands of the division rival Rangers and need to quickly get right back on the winning side of the ledger. It would also help if the defense didn't give away runs with Bartolo Colon allowing four runs, but just one was earned through five innings pitched. The A's had base runners with ten hits but were not clutch at the plate with Jed Lowrie plating the lone run on a sacrifice fly. Jarrod Parker toes the rubber Wedneday, looking to pick up a crucial win over the visiting Rangers. Parker has been very good lately with a 2-0 record and a 1.88 ERA, while Oakland is 15-12 in his 2013 starts.
Darvish has the better overall numbers, but Parker has been really tough for a while so I'm thinking why not take a shot at a dog price.
