The San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants face-off again in a NL West battle.
The San Diego Padres are looking to the future, but if they can play like they did in Tuesday’s win, the future looks bright. Nick Hundley had two hits and Will Venable and Chris Dnorfia had hits as the Padres scored three runs on seven hits. Robbie Erlin allowed six hits and two runs over 5.1 innings for a no decision as Tim Stauffer blew the save, but got the win and Huston Street earned his 27th save. For Wednesday’s game, the Padres start Eric Stults, who is 8-12 with a 3.81 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA in his last three starts.

The San Francisco Giants had chances on Tuesday, but they were unable to convert, taking the loss. Angel Pagan had three hits and Brandon Belt, Buster Posey, and Joaquin Arias each has two hits as the Giants scored just two runs on 11 hits. Madison Bumgarner allowed five hits and two runs over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Jake Dunning took the loss. For Wednesday’s game, the Giants start Tim Linecum, who is 8-13 on the season with a 4.38 ERA and 2-1 with a 4.41 ERA in his last three starts.
San Diego is 5-1 in their last six home games, 6-1 against a team with a losing record, and 2-6 in Stults’ last eight starts. San Francisco is 0-5 in their last five starts as a favorite, 6-16 in their last 22 games against a left-handed starting pitcher, and 5-14 in Lincecum’s last 14 starts. The Giants are 5-3 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The Giants look to have packed it in, but I like Lincecum in this spot in a game I won’t be playing.
