Chicago Cubs vs. Milwaukee Brewers Free Pick - 9/6/13
2013-09-06 01:20:00 EDT
The Milwaukee Brewers travel to Wrigley Field to open a series with the Chicago Cubs.
Milwaukee has been in the role of spoiler for quite some time and haven’t done too bad in this role. On the flip side, beating teams not in playoff contention hasn’t been easy, which is part of the reason the team is fighting to stay out of the National League Central basement. The Brew Crew ended a five game slide with a 9-3 rout of Pittsburgh Wednesday, with Wily Peralta allowing three runs on nine hits in six frames, with a 13 hit, two walk attack piling up the runs to back him up. Khris Davis smacked a two run homer, while Jeff Bianchi and Aramis Ramirez knocked in two runs each. Milwaukee opens the series with Chicago by sending Kyle Lohse to the mound Friday. Lohse has been the most dependable member of the rotation, with a record of 9-8 and an ERA of 3.32.
The Cubs are in the same position as the Brew Crew, as they are fighting to finish the season out of the National League Central cellar. The Cubs might have played better in 2013 than in recent years, but I’m sure the Chicago faithful wanted much more. Runs haven’t always been easy to come by, but they were Wednesday in a 9-7 victory over Miami and that got Jeff Samardzija off the hook as he was tagged for six runs on nine hits through six innings, while striking out nine. The Cubs pounded out 11 hits and walked six times with Donnie Murphy, Starlin Castro, Ryan Sweeney and Dioner Navarro each clubbing home runs. The Cubs are hoping that Chris Rusin can continue his hot work on the mound when he faces the visiting Brewers. Rusin has been strong the past three times out, but is just 0-1 despite a 2.12 ERA.
Neither team has a record that is screaming ‘bet me’. The Brew Crew have done well in this matchup and have their best hurler going so I’m looking their way…
