The Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Mariners face off on Thursday in KC as they close out their series.
The Kansas City Royals battled all game on Thursday but eventually they just didn’t have enough as they fell to the Mariners on Wednesday. Eric Hosmer, Billy Butler, and David Lough all had hits as the Royals scored four runs on four hits. Ervin Santana had a rough night lasting just 3.1 innings after all owing seven hits and four runs but it was Aaron Crowe who took the loss. For Thursday’s game the Royals start Jeremy Guthrie who is 13-10 on the season with a 4.08 ERA and 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA in his last three starts.

The Seattle Mariners are in a rebuilding phase but we can very much see that they are building a nice foundation for the future. On Tuesday Kendrys Morales had two hits including a home run and Raul Ibanez and Nick Franklin each had two hits as the Mariners scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker allowed four hits and four runs over five innings but it was Lucas Luetge who got the win and Danny Farquhar who earned the save. For Thursday’s game the Mariners start Joe Saunders who is 11-13 with a 4.92 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in his last three starts.
Kansas City is 4-1 in their last five home games, 6-2 in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, and 17-4 in Guthrie’s last 21 starts. Seattle is 4-9 in their last 13 games, 2-5 in theirlast seven games as an underdog, and 6-2 in Saunders’ last eight road starts. Seattle is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
Guthrie ahs pitched well at home and Saunders is fledgling much like he was at the start of the season and I look for the Royals to win easily here.
