The Tampa Bay Rays will be facing the Angels on Thursday night, hoping to take this series from the Angels 3-1.
On the mound for the Angels Thursday night against the Rays will be Jerome Williams. Williams is currently 5-10 on the year with an ERA of 4.68. Williams has faced the Rays seven times in his career, but has only made two starts against Tampa. Williams has done well against the Rays throughout his career, with a WHIP of .70 and a solid ERA of 1.85. The Angels starter averages just 3.45 innings per outing against the Rays, but of course that number is skewed due to the few starts Williams has against Toronto. The pen should be rested for the Angels on Thursday as just Kohn and De La Rosa were needed, each pitching just one inning.

The Tampa Bay Rays will be looking to clinch their series with the Angels on Thursday night. The Rays need all the wins they can get right now as Tampa trails the Sox by 5.5 games in the East. The Rays will have David Price on the mound Thursday against the Angels, and Price has been solid against the Angels in his career with a record of 4-2 in eight starts with a WHIP of 1.20. I am a bit concerned about the Arms in the ‘Pen for the Rays as Tampa used four different relievers on Wednesday, however Torres did only throw two thirds of an inning.
We have seen some steady price increases here as more and more money seems to be coming in on the Rays. Tampa opened last night at -165 in most books, and now I have seen the number as high as -170, and expect it to get even more expensive closer to first pitch.
Everything on paper looks like Tampa is the play, but I’m going to take the Angels in this spot. The main reason for this play is the fact I just can’t lay this much juice against a solid Angels team at home. Price has done very well against the Angels lately, and Tampa always plays well in Los Angeles it seems, but this is just too much juice for me to lay. Be careful, but if you’re going to take action here, I’d take the Angels.
