Philadelphia Phillies vs. Atlanta Braves Free Pick - 9/6/13

The Philadelphia Phillie host the rival Atlanta Braves at Citizen’s Bank Park on Friday.
It’s just a matter of time before Atlanta officially wraps up the National League East and my guess would be sooner the way the wins have been piling up. The Braves have won nine of eleven and took a rare loss to the visiting Mets on Wednesday in a 5-2 decision. It was also a rare down performance from the work on the mound, which has been outstanding during the hot streak. Kameron Loe didn’t have much going for him right out of the gate, with all five runs allowed on eleven hits and three BB in 4.1 frames and the bats never solved Dillon Gee with a sacrifice fly and Freddie Freman’s solo homer accounting for the scoring. Atlanta turns to Mike Minor on the hill to open the series in Philadelphia. Minor has not been at the top of his game lately, with four runs given up in three of his last four outings and would like to iron out the kinks.
After going on a bit of a hot streak when Ryne Sandberg took over for Charlie Manuel, the Phillies have hit a rough patch for the first time under their new skipper. Following a 3-2 defeat to visiting Washington, the Phils have dropped six of nine and need to right the ship to finish third in the National League East. After Roy Halladay escaped a first inning bases loaded jam in the first with just a run allowed, the home team seemed destined to win. Halladay left after six innings with a 2-1 lead before Zach Minor gave up a tying home run and Jake Diekman followed with a run given up on a fielder’s choice. Cesar Hernandez gave the Phils a 2-1 lead in the second with a two run double. Veteran left hander Cliff Lee takes the ball in game number one versus Atlanta. Lee appears to have worked through a slow period and has rebounded to go 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA over his last three starts.
As a Phillies fan, I don’t like the Braves and at the same time, I don’t like the way this season has gone for Philly, with basically a Triple A team taking the field. I’m backing the Braves, but certainly wouldn’t mind being wrong.
