The Houston Astros and the Oakland A’s face off on Friday for game two of their series in Oakland.
The Oakland A’s had a chance to regain solo possession of first place in the AL West on Thursday but they were unable to do it as they lost to the Astros. Coco Crisp, Josh Donaldson, and Jed Lowrie all had hits as the A’s scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned, as he took the loss. For Friday’s game the A’s start A.J. Griffin who is 12-9 on the season with a 3.84 ERA and 2-1 in his last three starts with a 4.50 ERA.
The Houston Astros may be down but they never quit and we saw that once again on Thursday as they beat the A’s. Jose Altuve and Trevor Citeme each had two hits and Chris Carter added a hit as the Astros scored three runs on eight hits in all. Starting pitcher Brad Peacock allowed five hits and two runs while striking out nine over 7.0 innings to get the win and Josh Fields earned the save. For Friday’s game the Astros start Dallas Keuchel who is 5-8 on the season with a 4.77 ERA and 0-1 in his last three starts with a 3.50 ERA.
Oakland is 5-2 in their last seven home games, 55-24 as a home favorite, and 14-4 in Griffin’s last 18 starts as a home favorite. Houston is 17-44 in their last 61 games overall, 16-42 as an underdog, and 1-5 in Keuchel’s last six starts as an underdog, Houston is 3-7 in their last 10 games in Oakland.

Houston pulled the upset on Thursday but I didn’t see the doing it back to back and while I don’t like this price on the A’s it beats losing.
