The Detroit Tigers continue their series with Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium Saturday night.

It's going to be a difficult task to unseat Detroit from the top spot in the American League Central and my thought is it won't happen. The Tigers will be impossible to beat if they even come close to duplicating Friday's 16-2 rout of Kansas City. The score tells the story with Anibal Sanchez at his best on the mound with a lone run allowed over seven frames to raise his record to 13-7. The Tigers amassed 26 hits and were paced by Omar Infante with six RBI's while Austin Jackson drove in four. The Tigers hand the ball to Justin Verlander to control the offense of Kansas City on Saturday. Verlander has been one of the best in the game the past few years so a 12-10 season with a 3.59 ERA hasn't been typical.

Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers Free Pass - 9/7/13

Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City seemed to be in position to make a run at Detroit with wins in seven of ten heading in to Friday's contest with their division rivals. Where the Royals stand now following Friday's performance is open to debate as it was obvious not one thing went right. Big Game Shields was the guy KC wanted on the mound but he was simply pounded with ten runs plated on 14 hits over 3.2 innings which makes me wonder why he was left in. The bats had zero chance with their ten hit attack that saw Jarrod Dyson and Billy Butler drive in runs. Left hander Danny Duffy squares off against the heavy hitting Tigers Saturday night. Duffy has only four starts to his credit in 2013 with a 2-0 mark with a 1.35 ERA covering 20 innings of work.

Kansas City can be a tough foe for the Tigers but I'm more concerned with what Verlander does. I'm going to back the Tigers but I don't have a great read on this one...
