The Seattle Mariners and the Tampa Bay Rays meet on Saturday for game two of their series in Seattle.
The Seattle Mariners looked to have Friday’s game won but they managed to recover from a blown save to get the win. Raul Ibanez homered and Brad Mileer and Franklin Guiterrez had two hits each as the Mariners scored six runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings but Carter Capps blew the save and then was credited with a win while Danny Farquhar earned the save. For Saturday’s game the M’s start James Paxton who makes his first Major League appearance but at Triple-A Tacoma he has a 4.55 ERA and 131 strikeouts over 146 innings.

The Tampa Bay Rays are having a miserable road trip and they play the second to last game of it on Saturday. On Friday Delmon Young had two hits including a home run and Ben Zobrist and Jose Molina hit home runs as the Rays scored four runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Alex Cobb allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings but it was Joel Peralta who took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Rays start Chris Archer who is 8-6 on the season with a 3.14 ERA and he is 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA in his last three starts.
Seattle is 5-11 in their last 16 games following a win, 3-8 in their last 11 games as an underdog, and 1-6 in their last seven home games. Tampa Bay is 10-4 in their last 14 road games against a team with a losing record, 3-9 in their last 12 games against a left-handed starter, and 10-4 in Archer’s last 14 starts.
The Rays road trip has been absolutely horrible but look for them to at least get a win here.
