Kansas City Royals vs. Detroit Tigers Free Pick 9/8/13
2013-09-08 01:10:00 EDT
The Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers face off on Sunday as they close out their series in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Royals have slid in the standings but they don’t seem to be done as of yet as they beat the Tigers on Saturday. Salvador Perez hit a home run, Emilio Bonifacio had two hits, and Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler had hits as the Royals scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Danny Duffy allowed two hits and two runs over 4.1 innings as Wade Davis earned the win and Greg Holland got the save. For Sunday’s game the Royals start Bruce Chen who is 6-2 with a 2.81 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 5.87 ERA in his last three starts.
The Detroit Tigers continue to have a comfortable lead in the AL Central but it got just a little smaller on Saturday as they fell to the Royals. Austin Jackson, Miguel Cabrera, and Prince Fielder all had hits as the Tigers scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Tigers start Doug Fister who is 12-7 on the season 3.66 ERA and 1-1 in his last three starts with a 3.93 ERA.
Kansas City is 6-2 in their last eight home games, 10-4 in their last 14 games overall, and 6-17 in Chen’s last 23 games as an underdog. Detroit is 6-3 in their last nine road games, 20-9 in their last 29 games as road Favorite, and 5-2 in Fister’s last seven road starts. Detroit is 5-3 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The Tigers are favored once again on Sunday but I am not feeing it as I like Chen and the Royals to get the best of it.
