Starting pitcher Erik Johnson allowed seven hits and six runs, two earned, while striking out four over 3.2 innings to take the loss. For Wednesday’s game, the White Sox start Jose Quintana, who is 7-6 with a 3.70 ERA and 0-2 in his last three starts with a 4.02 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers moved a game closer to clinching the A.L. Central, as they won in Chicago on Tuesday. Prince Fielder had four hits, including a home run, Alex Avila had four hits, and Victor Martinez had two hits, as te Tigers scored nine runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello went the distance, allowing seven hits and a run, while striking out five to earn his 12th win. For Wednesday’s game, the Tigers start Anibal Sanchez, who is 7-6 on the season with a 3.70 ERA and 0-2 in his last three starts and a 4.02 ERA.
Chicago is 6-2 in their last eight games as a home underdog, 5-2 in their last seven home games, and 1-4 in Quintana’s last five starts as a home underdog. Detroit is 4-1 in their last five road games against a team with a losing record, 2-5 in their last seven games, and 8-1 in Sanchez’s last nine starts. Detroit is 2-4 in their last six games in Chicago.
While the Sox have played well recently, it is just tough to go against the Tigers in this spot.
