The Kansas City looks for another win at Progressive Field against the Cleveland Indians.
Whether you like or dislike Kansas City, it's tough to deny this team is refusing to go away and remains in the American League postseason conversation. I don't believe their chances are all that strong, but stranger things have happened. After doubling up Cleveland 6-3 on Tuesday, the Royals have won seven of ten, with both the bats and arms contributing. Jeremy Guthrie allowed just a single run on nine hits in six frames to pick up the win and the bats took care of the rest. KC totaled eleven hits, with Alcides Escobar and Mike Moustakas driving in two runs apiece. James Shields squares off with the Indians in early afternoon action Wednesday. Shields had been in a groove until he was hammered for ten runs on 14 hits and a pair BB in a 16-2 defeat to Detroit.

Cleveland is in much the same boat as Kansas City, with the team playing decent baseball, but needing much more and then having to hope it's enough. That's a question that could be answered soon, with each loss being painful. It was certainly painful following Tuesday's loss to the rival Royals, with both the bats and arms falling short of the mark. Starter Zach McAllister looked good, but eventually ran out of gas with four runs plated through five innings pitched. The Indians had their chances on 12 hits, but the clutch hit wasn't on the menu. Michael Bourne rappped a two-run double, and Mike Brantley singled in another to pace the scoring. The Indians look to get back on the winning side of the ledger behind the left arm of Scott Kazmir on Wednesday versus the rival Royals. Kazmir comes in off an 8-1 win over the Mets where went six frames.
I was on Shields the last time he was on the mound and boy did he get crushed and that can't happen here in an absolutely crucial situation. He wins this and I'll give him back his 'Big Game' nick name...
