Justin Turner and Travis d’Arnaud each had two hits and Eric Young and Daniel Murphy had hits as the Mets scored three runs on nine hits in all. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee allowed nine hits and four runs, while striking out five over 6.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 11-10 on the year. For Wednesday’s game, the Mets start Zack Wheeler, who is 7-4 on the season with a 3.38 ERA and 1-2 with a 2.95 ERA in his last three starts.

The Washington Nationals got an early lead on Tuesday and they rode it for the game, putting the Mets away in the end and getting the win. Jayson Werth had three hits, including a home run and Adam LaRoche and Scott Hairston each hit home runs as the Nationals scored six runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman allowed eight hits and three runs, while striking out four over 5.0 innings to get his 17th win of the season and Rafael Soriano earned his 40th save. For Wednesday’s game, the Nationals start Dan Haren, who is 8-13 with a 5.23 ERA for the year and 0-2 with a 11.37 ERA in his last three starts.
New York is 4-13 in their last 17 games as an underdog, 2-7 in their last nine games overall, and 9-3 in Wheeler’s last 12 starts. Washington is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 22-8 in their last 30 games as a favorite, and 1-4 in Haren’s last five starts. Washington is 20-7 in their last 27 games in New York.
