I hope the Astros brought their brooms with them as Houston will be going for the three game sweep of the Mariners on Wednesday night.
The Seattle Mariners are just 65-80 on the year, and obviously will be enjoying the playoffs from home. Seattle had Joe Saunders on the mound Tuesday night against the Astros, and Saunders was lit up, lasting just three innings and giving up six runs off of seven hits. The Mariners were forced to use four different arms on the night against the Astros, with all four pitchers having at least one full inning of work. The Seattle Mariners will have Brandon Maurer on the mound Wednesday night against the Astros. Maurer has one career start against the Astros, and it was a complete disaster. The Seattle starter last just two thirds of an inning and gave up six earned runs off of seven hits.

The Houston Astros are just 49-96 on the year, but even so the Astros have won this series, and will be looking for the sweep of the Mariners on Wednesday night. The Astros put Jordan Lyles on the mound Tuesday against Seattle, and Lyles was solid against Seattle, lasting six full innings and giving up just two run off of four hits. The Houston Bullpen also had a nice rest on the night as the Astros used De Leon and Cruz, with Cruz doing the majority of the work, with two full innings. The Houston Astros will be sending Brad Peacock to the mound on Wednesday against the Mariners. Peacock has three career starts against the Mariners and has a record of 1-2 with an ERA of 9.64 and a WHIP of 1.86.
The Astros are horrible no matter where they play, but Houston’s road record on the year is a terrible 25-47, while the Mariners are 33-40 at home this season. The Mariners are decent against right handed starters (well, decent for Seattle) going 45-50 on the year against righties, while the Astros are just 37-67 against right handed starters.
I can’t believe I’m typing this, but I’ll take the Astros to sweep the Mariners here. Neither team has a lot going for them in this match up, especially their starting pitching. This would be an automatic over play…but it’s the Astros and the Mariners and who knows what we’ll get with these offenses.
I’m taking the Astros here as Maurer is just now returning to the starting rotation for the M’s. Personally I am staying away, but if you are looking to make a play here, there may be some value with the Astros at this price.
