The Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves face off on Thursday in Miami as they close out their series.
The Miami Marlins are simply a different team when Jose Fernandez pitches and they showed that once again on Wednesday. Giancarlo Stanton hit a home run and Placido Polanco, Christian Yellich, and Kyle Hill each had two hits as the Marlins scored five runs on 13 hits. Fernadez dazzled once again on the mound allowing five hits and a run striking out five over 7.0 innings to get his 12th win and he also had to hits including a home run. For Thursday’s game Miami starts Brian Flynn who has a 6.75 ERA pitching just four innings this season.

The Atlanta Braves have been running away with the NL East since early on this season but not even they had an answer for Fernandez and the Marlins on Wednesday. Evan Gattis hit a home run, Andrelton Simmons had two hits, and Freddie Freeman had a hit as the Braves scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Mike Minor allowed 11 hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 13-7 on the season. For Thursday’s game Atlanta starts Freddy Garcia who makes his first start of the year having a 1.17 ERA pitching 7.2 innings.
Miami is 4-1 in their last five game four of a series, -23 in their last 31 games as an underdog, and 2-4 in their last six home games. Atlanta is 15-6 in their last 21 games following a loss, 3-7 in their last 10 road games, and 2-6 in their last eight games. Atlanta is 21-7 in their last 28 games in Miami.
While I believe Flynn is better than his ERA I look for the Braves to bounce back and get the win here.
