The Minnesota Twins and the Oakland A’s close out their series on Thursday at Target Field.
The Minnesota Twins have had a tough year and they had a tough night on Wednesday as they were blasted by the A’s. Eric Fryer hit a home run and Brian Dozier and Josh Willingham each had hits as the Twins scored three runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey was crushed allowing eight hits and seven runs lasting just 3.0 innings to fall to 5-12 on the season. For Thursday’s game the Twins start Scott Diamond who is 5-10 with a 5.52 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 6.61 ERA in his last three starts.

The Oakland A’s got the bats going early on Wednesday and they never let up drilling the Twins in Minnesota. Coco Crisp, Jed Lowrie, and Stephen Vogt all hit home runs and the A’s scored 18 runs on 22 hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed four hits and two runs while striking out seven over 5.0 innings to get the win to level his record at 3-3. For Thursday’s game the A’s start A.J. Griffin who is 13-9 on the season with a 3.91 ERA and 3-0 with a 4.50 ERA in his last three starts.
Minnesota is 5-2 against the AL West, 3-10 in their last 13 games as a home underdog, and 1-6 in Diamond’s last seven starts. Oakland is 12-4 in their last 16 games overall, 16-6 against the AL Central, and 4-1 in Griffin’s last five road starts. Oakland is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
While we wont see what we saw Wednesday, we will see plenty of scoring and I look for this one to go over the total. I also have a play on the winning side that I will post in the Premium Area.
