The Washington Nationals go for the road sweep of the New York Mets on Thursday.
Washington is red hot and playing their best baseball of 2013 which would be great except for the fact this team struggled too much early on. That's my way of saying their chance at making the playoffs is slim to none. The Nationals won for the seventh time in eight contests following a 3-0 decision over the Mets on Wednesday. Dan Haren came up with a big effort with a one hit shut out over six frames while striking out eight. Anthony Rendon paced the Nats offense with a pair of RBI's while Ryan Zimmerman left the yard. Rookie Tanner Roark makes his second start of 2013 when he squares off with the Mets at Citi Field. Roark would like to duplicate his first start when he tossed six scoreless frames in a 9-2 win at Miami.

While the Nationals have been turning on the jets, the Mets have been heading in the opposite direction with defeats in eight of ten. The work on the mound and at the plate hasn't been strong and no David Wright or Matt Harvey hasn't helped the cause. The bats struggled Wednesday which squandered a great performance on the mound by Zach Wheeler who allowed one run over seven frames with Vic Black giving up a pair in one inning. That was too much to over come a New York attack that mustered only three hits and walked once. The Mets send newly acquired Aaron Harang to the mound to face off with the surging Nationals. Harang had been struggling with Seattle with four quality starts over his last ten outings.
To cut to the chase, many people bet against the sweep which is difficult to accomplish but I am simply backing the hot team although Roark is inexperienced...
