The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres meet on Thursday in Philadelphia as they close out their series.
The Philadelphia Phillies didn’t get a ton of offense on Wednesday but they got enough to get the win as they beat the San Diego Padres. Freddy Galvis had three hits including a home run, Jimmy Rollins had two hits including a home run, and Carlos Ruiz had a hit as the Phillies scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Cliff Lee allowed five hits and two runs while striking out nine to earn his 13th win and Jonathan Papelbon earned his 26th save. For Thursday’s game the Phillies start Roy Halladay who is 3-4 on the season with a 7.19 ERA and 1-0 in his last three starts with a 4.24 ERA.

The San Diego Padres drew first blood on Wednesday but it wasn’t enough to get it done as they lost to the Phillies. Jed Gyorko and Tommy Medica each hit home runs and Chase Headley added a hit as the Padres scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Eric Stults allowed six hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Nick Vincent took the loss to fall to 4-3 on the season. For Thursday’s game the Padres start Tyson Ross who is 3-7 on the year with a 2.79 ERA and 0-1 with a 2.50 ERA in his last three starts.
Philadelphia is 9-1 in their last 10 games as a favorite, 5-2 in game three of a series, and 2-5 in Halladay’s last seven home starts. San Diego is 4-1 in their last five games overall, 2-6 in their last eight games as an underdog, and 1-4 in Ross’ last five starts. San Diego is 19-44 in the last 53 meetings of these two.
I liked Philly on Wednesday winning with a Premium Plus pick but for this one I do an about face and take the Padres in what is just a lean.
