The Los Angeles Angels will be looking to get back into the win column on Saturday when they face the Astros.
The Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, 9-7. The Astros had Dallas Keuchel on the mound Friday against the Angels. Keuchel lasted five and two thirds innings, giving up six runs off of ten hits to Los Angeles. The Astros had to use four different relievers on Friday to seal the win over the Angels. Houston will be sending out Brett Oberholtzer on Saturday against the Angels. Oberholtzer has one career start against the Angels, and in that start the Astros starter lasted six innings, giving up three runs off of seven hits, earning the win. Oberholtzer has been solid at home this season, making three starts and five total appearances, with an ERA of 2.36 and a WHIP of 1.05.

The Los Angeles Angels are basically playing for pride only at this point as this has been a very disappointing season for Los Angeles. The Angels had Vargas on the mound Friday against the Astros, and Vargas got shelled by Houston, giving up eight runs off of nine hits, lasting just four and one thirds innings. The Angels will be looking for a stronger performance on Saturday from their starter Jered Weaver. Weaver has yet to face the Astros, but in 11 road starts this season has an ERA of 4.08, while having a very solid WHIP of 1.19.
The Astros have struggled at home this season, having a record of just 24-49 at Minute Maid Park. The Angels aren’t spectacular on the road, but do have a respectable record of 35-37 away from Los Angeles. It should be noted that the Angels play very well on the weekends, having a Saturday record this season of 17-7, while the Astros are just 7-16 on Saturdays.
I’m going to back the Astros here. I really like the way Oberholtzer has been pitching lately. The Astros starter has a WHIP of 1.033 in his last three starts, with a solid ERA of 2.21. Weaver isn’t bad either, having an ERA of 2.84 and a WHIP of 1.263. I don’t love this play as I just don’t know how much I can trust the Astros, but having the hotter hand at home, and getting odds makes the Astros worth a small play to me.
