The Cincinnati Reds head to Miller Park to square off with the rival Miwaukee Brewers Friday.
The Reds continue to hover in third in the National League Central looking over the shoulders of St Louis and Pittsburgh in a very tough division. The Reds have won seven of ten with great pitching leading the way which we saw once again Wednsday in a 6-0 decision over the Cubs. Mike Leake had been in a rut but broke through with one of his best efforts with a four hit shut out over 5.2 innings while four relievers finished the job. The offense didn't waste the performance with Jack Hannahan slugging a pinch hit three run bomb while David Mesoraco went solo. Cincinnati turns to veteran Mat Latos to open the series at Milwaukee on Friday. Latos picked up a no decision in a 4-3 win over the Dodgers with all three runs plated on nine hits in seven frames.

It sometimes seems as if Milwaukee is playing out the string and then they come up with a big win that says maybe not. That describes the Brewers over the past few weeks where they have won four times in eleven contests after Thursday's 5-3 decision at St Louis in a game that definitely hurt the Cardinals more then it helped Milwaukee. The Brew Crew can thank starter Tyler Thornburg who gave up just a pair of runs on three hits through six innings pitched. The offense was mostly Sean Halton who homered and drove in three runs while also scoring. Kyle Lohse toes the rubber against visiting Cincinnati in game one of their weekend series at Miller Park. Lohse has been the Brewers best hurler but took one on the chin in an 8-5 loss to the Cubs with seven runs scored in five innings.
If the Brewers are going to steal one then this would be it with their best going on the mound. The problem with this thinking is I stink at picking games involving Latos and I said this about Lohse last time and he was hammered...
