The Baltimore Orioles need a series opening at the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
As an Orioles fan I was happy to see the team make some moves to try and improve the team and secure a spot in the postseason. However, the team has been mediocre at times and that cant happen in the final weeks of the season. A 6-5 loss to the Yankees was their fourth in five games as Wei-Yin Chen gave up five runs over 6.1 innings before Jim Johnson gave up a 9th inning run on a wild pitch to take the loss. Nick Makakis homered and Danny Valencia clubbed a three run bomb to spark the O's attack. Baltimore sends Jason Hammel to the bump in the series opener against the Blue Jays. The Birds need Hammel 100% going forward and his 7-8 record and 5.11 ERA says he hasn't been at his best.

After enjoying a two week hot streak the Blue Jays might have come back to earth after a 4-3 loss to the visiting Angels was number three in a row. The Jays need some runs to help out the rotation and came up short Thursday and starter JA Happ could have used the help. Happ has had a rough year and that trend continued with four runs plated on six hits and a pair of bases on balls through 4.1innings of work. The relief corps held serve but the offense couldn't get runs despite eleven hits and three walks that saw Jose Reyes total four hits including a solo homer while scoring twice. Todd Redmond toes the rubber against visiting Baltimore in Friday's series opener. Redmond has won consecutive games with five runs plated on seven hits and four free passes in 10.2 innings.
I don't like either team although Baltimore is better. I just don't know what to expect from Hammel so I'll back the Jays which doesn't thrill me at all...
