The Colorado Rockies took game one from Arizona, and now the Rockies would love to ensure the series victory on Saturday by defeating the Diamondbacks in Phoenix.
The Arizona Diamondbacks need wins right now if they have any hope of making the NL Wild Card. The Diamondbacks fell to the Rockies 7-5 on Friday, and if the Diamondbacks are going to get in this thing late, Arizona needs to take advantage of the Rockies in Phoenix. The Diamondbacks will have lefty Wade Miley on the mound Saturday against Colorado. Miley has faced the Rockies eight times in his career, with seven starts against Colorado. Miley is a perfect 5-0 against the Rockies, with an ERA of 2.52 and a WHIP of 1.16. In Miley’s last outing against Colorado, the Arizona lefty lasted eight full innings, giving up just one run off of five hits.

The Colorado Rockies don’t really have anything to play for right now, but Colorado would love to further dampen the playoff hopes of the Diamondbacks. Colorado will be sending Roy Oswalt to the mound on Saturday against the Diamondbacks. Oswalt has 14 career starts against the Diamondbacks, with a record of 9-4, an ERA of 2.41 and a WHIP of 1.07 against Arizona. Oswalt is not the pitcher he once was, In Oswalt’s last three starts overall, and the Colorado starter has an ERA of 7.81 and a WHIP of 1.736.
The Rockies have struggled on the road this season, going just 26-49 away from Coors Field. The Diamondbacks however, have been solid at home with a winning record of 40-31 in Phoenix. When on the road, and the total is set between 9 and 9.5, the Rockies are just 3-11, while the Diamondbacks are 14-8 at home when the total is between 9 and 9.5.
I really don’t like Oswalt, but with these odds I have to take the Rockies. Honestly this game looks like a coin flip as I don’t see a definitive edge for either team. Personally I’m not going to touch this one, but if you must, I’d take the odds with the Rockies and keep your fingers crossed Oswalt doesn’t implode.
