The San Diego Padres shoot for back to back wins versus the Atlanta Braves in Saturday action.
San Diego rebounded from back to back defeats at Philadelphia to upend Atlanta 4-3 in game one of their weekend series. The Padres stayed hot in the process, with wins in seven of ten where the bats and arms have been on the same page in the victories. San Diego received just enough of both Friday, with starter Ian Kennedy giving up all three runs on five hits and a pair of free passes over six innings. The bats totaled ten hits and walked twice, with Chase Headley leaving the yard, while four players drove in runs and three scored. Rookie left-hander Robbie Erlin is scheduled to be on the mound for his seventh start of 2013. Erlin comes in off of a 3-2 win (ND) over San Francisco in which he gave up both runs in 5.1 frames.

Atlanta has played around .500 baseball over the last few weeks or so, but are still on track towards locking up the National League East. It's just a matter of time, although the sooner the better, so the team will be able to rest up and prepare for the postseason. The Braves have the offense and pitching to dominate opponents, but neither was quite strong enough on Friday. The good news was David Hale was strong in his debut, with five scoreless innings before Jordan Walden lost it with two runs plated in the 8th. The offense didn't pound the ball, with only five hits with Brian McCann slugging a two run bomb and Justin Upton going solo in a three run first. A hot Kris Medlen faces visiting San Diego riding the momentum of three consecutive victories. Overall Medlen has quality starts in seven of ten where he has gone 7-3.
I haven't seen enough of Erlin to know what the kid has so all I have is a hot Medlen going against a hot San Diego. If good pitching beats good hitting then the Braves are the choice...
