The New York Mets and the Miami Marlins face off on Sunday at Citi Field as they close out their weekend series.
The New York Mets are once again thinking about next year and they continued to stagger into the close of the season as they lost to the marlins on Saturday. Mathew den Dekker had two hits and Lucas Duda and Travis d’Arnaud each had hits as the Mets failed to score on four hits. Starting pitcher Carlos Torres allowed three hits and two runs while striking out eight over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Mets start Dillon Gee who is 11-10 on the season with a 3.61 ERA and he is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA in his last three starts.
The Miami Marlins knew before the season started they were playing for the future and they have seen glimpses of positive things ahead. On Saturday Donovan Solano hit a home run, Christian Yellich had two hits, and Logan Morrison had a hit and drove in two runs as the Marlins scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez allowed four hits and struck out five to get the win and Steven Chisek earned the save. For Sunday’s game the Marlins start Tom Koehler who is 3-10 with a 4.80 ERA on the season and 0-2 with a 7.53 ERA in his last three starts.
New York is 6-2 in their last eight games as a favorite, 1-5 in their last six games overall, and 5-2 in Gee’s last seven starts as a favorite. Miami is 17-36 in their last 53 games as an underdog, 12-27 in their last 39 games, and 2-5 in Koehler’s last seven starts. Miami is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings of these two.
Gee has been one of the brighter spots for the Mets this year and look for his to get it done again here.
