The St. Louis Cardinals and the Seattle Mariners face-off on Saturday in St. Louis for game two of their interleague series.
The St. Louis Cardinals needed extra innings to get it done, but they got the win on Friday against Seattle. Matt Carpenter, Carlos Beltran, and David Freese each had hits, as the Cardinals scored two runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Adam Wainwright allowed six hits and a run over eight innings to get a no decision, as Kevin Siegrest got the win. For Saturday’s game, the Cardinals start Michael Wacha, who is 3-0 with a 2.72 in his last three starts and 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA for the season.

The Seattle Mariners looked to be on their way to an upset win on Friday, but they couldn’t close the deal and they took the loss in St. Louis. Mike Zunino hit a home run and Kyle Seager and Kendrys Morales each had two hits as the Mariners scored 1 run on 10 hits. Hisashi Iwakuma allowed just three hits over 7.0 scoreless innings to get a no decision, as Charlie Furbush blew the save and Chance Ruffin took the loss. For Saturday’s game, the Mariners start James Paxton, who is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA for the season.
St. Louis is 6-1 in their last seven games, 7-2 in their last nine games against a team with a losing record, and 5-1 in their last six games as a home favorite. Seattle is 5-2 in their last seven road games against a right-handed starter, 3-8 in game two of a series, and 0-5 in their last five games.
I like Seattle’s option on the mound here, but the Cardinals are the far better team.
