The Texas Rangers meet up with the A’s again on Saturday in game two of their three game set.
The Texas Rangers fell to the Oakland A’s 9-8 on Friday night. The Rangers trailed big late in the game, but Texas came roaring back with a six run eighth inning, but still came up one run short of the A’s on Friday night. The Rangers had Derek Holland on the mound against the A’s on Friday. Holland got shelled by Oakland, lasting just three innings and giving up six runs off of eight hits. The Rangers ended up using six different arms out of the bullpen on Friday against the A’s, not a good sign for the remainder of the series. Texas will have Yu Darvish on the mound Saturday against Oakland. Darvish has six career starts against the A’s and in those starts has a record of just 1-5 with an ERA of 4.86 and a WHIP of 1.43.

The Oakland A’s got up big after blasting the ball off of Holland, but Oakland was forced to hang on late to beat the Rangers in Texas. The A’s had Dan Straily on the mound Friday against the Rangers. Straily had a solid outing against Texas, lasting five and two thirds, and giving up two runs off of two hits on the night. Like the Rangers, the A’s were forced to use their bullpen extensively on the night. Oakland will send out Bartolo Colon on Saturday against Darvish and the Rangers. Colon has extensive experience against the Rangers, with 32 career starts against Texas under his belt. The A’s starter is 19-8 lifetime against Texas, with an ERA of 3.61 and a WHIP of 1.12.
The A’s are excellent this season in day games, going 34-26 on the year, while the Rangers are just 19-22 when playing during the day. So far in the month of September, the A’s are 8-3, while the Rangers are just 2-8.
I have to take the A’s in this spot. Both teams need wins here, so expect both the A’s and the Rangers to pull out all the stops. These are both solid teams, but right now the A’s are playing better ball.
This will be a small play for me, but getting odds with the hotter team and an experienced pitcher on the mound gives me the angles I need to call the A’s my pick here on Saturday.
