The Atlanta Braves host the San Diego Padres in the final game of the series on Sunday.
The Padres have nothing to play for except pride and have been showing some fight over the passing weeks. The Padres gave Atlanta a run for their money in a 2-1 defeat on Saturday as their offense was silenced. SD has still won seven of eleven with strong work on the mound leading the way. Unfortunately the bats couldn't support Robbie Erlin who gave up both runs on eight hits over six innings pitched. The Padres totaled five hits and coaxed three walks with Chase Headley smacking his 12th bomb of 2013 in the 9th. Rookie Burch Smith will be on the bump Sunday where he faces a dangerous Atlanta lineup for the first time. Smith picked up his first win in a 4-3 decision over Colorado with two runs allowed over five frames.

Atlanta is obviously going to win the National League East but they have been a bit up and down the last few weeks. Perhaps it's just they are getting every teams best shot or perhaps it's just them but they might be ready to go on a run after Saturday's victory was their fourth in six contests. The Bravos have a solid balance of hitting and pitching but it was the work on the mound that saved them Saturday. Kris Medlen brought his 'A' game with a four hit shut out through seven innings befor Craig Kimbrel made some hearts race with a homer allowed in the 9th. he Braves had many chances to score on nine hits and six walks but received an RBI single from Chris Johnson while Freddie Freeman went deep. The Braves turn to Julio Teheran for the final game of the series with San Diego. Teheran defeated Miami 4-3 last time out with all three runs given up on five hits and a trio of walks over 6.2 innings.
The Padres are playing well and the Braves could be righting the ship so this comes down to which hotter team do you trust more. I favor the Braves with Teheran but my gut tells me this could be another one run affair...
