The Pittsburgh Pirates have their sight set on the NL Central title with a win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday.
The Cubs have been through a long season but to their credit they haven't given up and have played some good teams very tough. Not that they have won all the time but Pittsburgh had all they could handle in a 2-1 decision on Saturday. The Cubs offense struggled which squandered a strong performance on the mound from Scott Baker. Baker allowed a run on three hits over six innings with Jeff Russell giving up another. The offense mustered five hits and walked three times with Nate Schierholtz doubling in Starlin Castro for a first inning run. Left hander Travis Wood draws Sunday's starting assignment against Pittsburgh. Wood shoots for win number ten after he stymied Cincinnati 2-0 last time out with a six hit shut out over seven frames.

Pittsburgh is back to their winning ways after knocking off the visiting Cubs on Sunday. The Pirates have won five of six and are keeping right on the tail of St Louis for supremacy in the National League Central. Gerrit Cole hadn't been as fearsome on the mound as he was earlier but he was at his best Saturday with the lone run allowed in the first before settling in for a seven inning stint. The Buccos didn't pound the ball with a mere five hits but that proved to be enough with Marlon Byrd and Jose Tabata each clubbing solo home runs. Francisco Liriano takes the hill in the final game of the series with the Cubs on Sunday. Liriano came up with a 5-4 victory at Texas in his last start with a single run scored over six innings pitched.
The Cubs have proven they can't be taken lightly and especially so with Wood throwing the ball well. Having said that, Liriano has been very reliable and has been the Pirates go to guy so I'll ride him again...
