The Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins face off on Tuesday in game two of their series between the bottom two teams in the A.L. Central.
The Chicago White Sox have the third worst record in baseball this season but you wouldn’t know it by watching them on Monday. The White Sox scored seven runs on Monday and never looked back as Adam Dunn, Dayan Viciedo, Jordan Danks, and Alexei Ramirez each hit home runs as the White Sox scored 12 runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Erik Johnson allowed four hits and struck out eight over 6.0 scoreless innings to get his first Major League win. For Tuesday’s game the White Sox start Jose Quintana who is 7-6 on the season with a 3.56 ERA and who has lost three of his last four decisions.

The Minnesota Twins just had no answers for the White Sox on Monday and they were never in the game. Alex Pressley and Oswaldo Arcia each had two hits and Josh Willingham and Trevor Plouffe each had hits as the Twins scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher Liam Hendriks was bombed allowed five hits and seven runs lasting just two-thirds of an inning and taking the loss. For Tuesday’s’ game the Twins start Mike Pelfrey who is 5-12 on the season with a 5.31 ERA and who has lost his last two starts.
The White Sox and the Twins are both set with rebuilding and the Twins played much of the end of the season without Joe Mauer and when they traded former MVP Justin Morneau to Pittsburgh it clearly sent the message that this was a team looking to get younger. Last season the White Sox got it done with their young itching staff but this year they just couldn’t get it done on the road and lost a series of games by one runs and that was their real undoing.
This game is just a matter of who wants it more and playing at home I have to believe it is the White Sox who have been playing their best baseball of the season over the past few weeks.
