The St Louis Cardinals keep a share of the top spot in the Central by beating Colorado.
With Pittsburgh losing the Cardinals needed to win Monday to take over the top spot in the National League Central but Colorado had other thoughts when they pounded out a 6-2 decision. The Redbirds have still won seven of ten and yet there is zero room for error and they still have to win going forward. The normally dependable arms and bats let the team down Monday but it wasn't the fault of starter Lance Lynn but Trevor Rosenthal who was tagged for four runs in 2/3 of an inning. The offense received RBI hits from Matt Carpenter and David Freese but nothing else. The Cardinals send out Joe Kelly to the mound to tame the Colorado offense on Tuesday. Kelly has been a big reason the Redbirds are battling for first with a 7-1 record with two no decisions over his last ten outings.

Colorado might have looked like easy pickings to visiting St Louis the way the Cards were hot with the Rockies in a tail spin but home team turned the table on the visitors. The bats and arms were on the same page which hasn't happened often enough and is the reason why the Rockies have still dropped seven of ten. The Rockies receved a strong performance from starter Collin McHugh with a lone run plated over five innings pitched which gave the offense a chance to get untracked. 12 hits and three walks later saw Charlie Blackmon and Ryan Wheeler drive in a pair of runs each. Juan Nicasio toes the rubber Tuesday against the dangerous Cardinals offense. Nicasio has a pair of no decisions the past two times out with two runs allowedon nine hits and six walks in eleven innings.
There will be loads of pressure on Kelly and it would be a big help if the Cardinals offense do some damage. The Redbirds have had great success with Kelly on the mound and I'm hoping the magic continues...
