The Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs face off on Tuesday at Miller Park for game two of their series among the bottom teams in the NL Central.
The Milwaukee Brewers won’t be having a post season this year but they never seem to need much motivation when it comes to the Chicago Cubs. Caleb Gindl hit a home run on one of his three hits and Jean Segura and Aramis Ramirez each had hits as the Brewers scored six runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Wily Peralta allowed five hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to get the win. For Tuesday’s game the Brewers start Marco Estrada who is 6-4 with a 4.29 ERA for the season and who has won his last two decisions,

The Chicago Cubs are just playing out the season as at best they hope to play respectably. On Monday Starlin Castro had two hits and Anthony Rizzo and Ryan Sweeney each had hits as the Cubs scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Edwin Jackson didn’t last long as he allowed two hits and two runs while striking out three over 4.0 innings to take the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Cubs start Jeff Samardzjia who is 8-12 with a 4.44 ERA and who lost his last start.
Both of these teams are in rebuilding phases and how long it will take remains to be seen. Milwaukee took a serious hit when Ryan Braun was suspended earlier this year. The Cubs meanwhile traded away high priced players like Alfonso Soriano and Matt Garza but they couldn’t replace their productivity.
The Brewers just appear to have more pop in their lineup right now and that to me is the difference maker and they are my play here.
