The Atlanta Braves travel to the Nation's Capitol to open a weekday series with the Washington Nationals in a make up game for Monday's cancelled game between these two.
Atlanta has all but wrapped up the National League East but the team hasn't been knocking them dead over the last few weeks. The Braves are tough because of their ability to both hit and pitch but the offense was no where to be found in a 4-0 loss to visiting San Diego on Sunday for their seventh loss in eleven contests. Julio Teheran took the loss with all four runs allowed on seven hits in 6.2 innings pitched. Not his best effort but the bats didn't help with a minimum amount of base runners on four hits and a pair of walks. Left hander Mike Minor opens the series on the mound against the Nationals. Minor looks to rebound from a 5-2 loss at Miami where he gave up five runs (four earned) on eleven hits over six innings.

Washington kept their fading playoff hopes afloat following an 11-2 pounding of the National League East rival Phillies in the rubber match of their series. The Nats rebounded nicely from a 5-4 loss on Saturday to capture win number ten in eleven contests. In this stretch both the work on the mound and at the plate has been on the same page and that trend continued Sunday. Jordan Zimmerman was stingy as usual with both runs plated through seven innings to pick up his 18th victory of 2013. The bats were just as impressive with an 18 hit attack with Wilson Ramos going deep and driving in five while Ian Desmond knocked in three more. Dan Haren takes the in game number one of their series against the visiting Braves. Haren is coming in off of his best start of 2013 when he tossed a one hit shut out over six frames of a 3-0 win over the Mets.
To be honest I don't have a strong feeling either way with Minor the better pitcher but facing a very hot hitting Washington club. I guess I'll go with the hotter team but they will need runs if Haren is flat again but I need to see a line first so please check back.
