The Seattle Mariners are still looking for their first win of the series against the Tigers as the Mariners face-off against Detroit on Wednesday night.
The Detroit Tigers currently own a six-game lead over the Indians in the Central division. That is causing the Tigers not to relax at all, however, as the Tigers have a two games to none advantage over the Mariners in their four-game set currently. Tuesday night, the Tigers defeated the Mariners 6-2. Sanchez was on the hill for the Tigers on Tuesday, and he was very strong, going six and one thirds innings, giving up two runs off of six hits. The Tigers will have Justin Verlander on the hill Wednesday against Seattle. Verlander has 16 career starts against the Mariners, and in those Starts the Detroit ace has an ERA of 3.35 and a WHIP of 1.20.

The Seattle Mariners are trying to avoid going down three games to none to the Tigers, and losing this series to Detroit. The Mariners don’t have anything to play for this season currently as Seattle is 23 back of the A’s in the West. Seattle sent Maurer to the hill on Tuesday against the Tigers. Maurer was decent against the Tigers, lasting five innings and giving up two runs off of five hits. The bullpen really let the Mariners down as Seattle used four arms on the night, three of which gave up runs to the Tigers. Detroit will have Hisashi Iwakuma on the hill Wednesday against the Tigers. Iwakuma has one start and two appearances against the Tigers, and has an outstanding ERA of 1.00 and a WHIP of 0.78 against Detroit.
The Mariners have really struggled in the month of September, going just 4-11 this month, while the Tigers are 7-7 in September games thus far.
Not a ton of value here either way, but I’m going to have to take the Mariners in this spot. Iwakuma has been solid all season long, and in his last three outings, the Mariners starter has an ERA of 1.37 and a WHIP of 1.118. I’m concerned about the Mariners bullpen, but Iwakuma is averaging 6.7 innings of work through his last three outings, so hopefully the M’s won’t have to go there too early.
