The Minnesota Twins take to the road to face the Oakland Athletics to kick off a weekend series.
The Twins enter the final few weeks of the regular season hoping they are better then the previous two weeks. Minnesota has dropped seven of eleven, with problems scoring and problems keeping the opposition from scoring. The Twins received just enough hitting and pitching in a 4-3 victory over the White Sox Wedneday to salvage the finale' of a three game set. Scott Diamond made for early runs hold up, with all three runs given up over 6.1 innings to improve to 6-11. The offense received RBI's from four different players, with four scoring as well. The Twins are sending Kevin Correia to the bump in game one or their series with Oakland Thursday. Correia pitched well in a 3-0 loss to Tampa Bay, in which he allowed all three runs in six innings.

The Athletics seem like they will be tough to catch in the American League West, with great work on the mound and plate leading the way to victories in eight of eleven. In this stretch, both the arms and bats have been contributing to the success, although the late inning relief pictching cost them in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the visiting Angels. A brilliant performance by AJ Griffin turned from a win into a no decision after he gave up one hit and two runs over six innings. Grant Balfour served up a two-run jack to Josh Hamilton in the 9th to tie the score at 4-4 before Jesse Chavez gave up the game winner on a sacrifice fly in the 11th. The bats looked like they had done enough damage when Coco Crisp and Yoenis Cespedes slammed two-run homers. Daniel Straily hopes to keep his recent hot streak going when he faces Minnesota on Thursday. Straily has earned four straight wins in which he was charged with five runs over 23.2 frames.
My take is Oakland needs to forget about Wednesday and come out and grab a win Thursday. I don't like Strailey being such a huge favorite, but part of that is his recent hot stretch backed by a solid offense...
