The Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays conclude their series with the postseason at stake for both teams.
The Rangers have been in a tail spin over the past several weeks with defeats in nine of eleven following Wednesday's 4-3 loss at Tropicana Field. Texas was once atop the American League West but are now fighting for the Wild Card which is no longer looking like a sure thing. In this stretch the arms and bats have been inconsistent but Derek Holland was more then strong Wednesday with two runs scored in six frames before Joe Nathan blew the save with a run allowed in the 11th before Joseph Ortiz lost it with a run scored in the 12th. Leonys Martin paced the attack with a pair of RBI's but the bats only managed seven hits. The Rangers look for a big performance from Yu Darvish in the final game of the series with Tampa Bay. Darvish has been a hard luck loser the past two times out with a single run allowed in each in 14 innings.

Tampa Bay might have the inside track for one of the Wild Card spots but that's far from a guarantee as this team can look bad at times and there is plenty of time to falter in the closing weeks. The Rays have now won five of seven with both the work on the mound and at the plate showing some spunk. On Wednesday TB simply came through with a few more key hits and pitches with starter Chris Archer holding the Rangers to two runs over six innings with Roberto Hernandez giving up an 11th inning run. Sean Rodriguez smacked a two run bomb with David DeJesus driving in an 11th inning run while Desmond Jennings singled in the winner in the 12th. Left hander Matt Moore makes his fourth start since coming off the disabled list when he face the Rangers Thursday. In those three starts Moore has gone 1-0 with a pair of no decisions with a 0.61 ERA.
No clear advantage in this one but Tampa Bay has definitely been playing better so for right now I'll back the home team...
