The Texas Rangers travel to Kauffman Stadium to take the field with the Kansas City Royals.
The Rangers haven't been playing well which has completely taken them out of the American League West conversation. They are still right in the middle of the Wild Card chase which will be decided on how this team performs over the final weeks. Texas took a step in the right direction in Thursday's 8-2 defeat of Tampa Bay. Yu Darvish struggled with his control but gave up just the two runs on five hits and six BB over five frames. The offense took over from there with a 16 hit, four walk attack that saw Elvis Andrus, Mitch Moreland, Alex Rios and Geovany Soto smack home runs. Left hander Martin Perez draws the starting assignment on Friday versus Kansas City. Perez has dropped back to back games but has been solid over his last ten with a 6-2 record in this stretch.

Kansas City has been in a win one, lose one mode over the last seven games and that will have this team sitting at home watching the playoffs. As it stands now the Royals have to pile up the wins in the final weeks of the year and get some help with the Wild Card slipping away. KC needs more performances like we saw in Wednesday's 7-2 victory over the visiting Indians. Bruce Chen raised his record to 8-2 with both runs given up through five innings of work with five relievers finishing the job. The bats totaled ten hits and walked four times with Salvador Perez and Alcides Escobar each driving in two runs. Ervin Santana faces Texas in the series opener with the Wild Card on the line. Santana will be looking to duplicate his last performance where he picked up a 1-0 decision at Detroit with 6.2 innings pitched.
I believe Kansas City has been playing better and probably need to sweep Texas to stay alive in the postseason race. For some reason I think the Rangers get one here with pretty good odds...
