The Minnesota Twins will look to even up their series with the A’s on Friday when the Twins face Oakland at the Coliseum.
The Oakland A’s are currently six and a half games up on the Texas Rangers at this point. The A’s defeated the Twins 8-6 on Thursday night. Oakland had Straily on the mound against the Twins, and he was solid, giving up three runs off of three hits in five and two thirds innings of work. The A’s will have Bartolo Colon on the hill on Friday against the Twins. Colon has pitched well this season, having record of 16-6 and an ERA of 2.73 and a WHIP of 1.19. Colon has been excellent lately, going 2-1 with an ERA of 0.95 and a WHIP of 1.158 in his last three starts.

The Minnesota Twins are just playing out the season at this point as the Twins trail the Tigers by 23.5 in the AL Central. The Twins had Correia on the mound Thursday against the A’s and Correia was solid, giving up just two runs off of six hits in five innings of work. The Twins turned to their bullpen, and that’s when the damage started as Duensing, Swarzak and finally Martis each gave up two runs apiece to the A’s. Minnesota will have Andrew Albers on the hill Friday against Oakland. Albers is 2-3 this season with an ERA of 3.81 and a WHIP of 1.07. Those are respectable numbers, but in his last three starts, Albers has gotten shelled, giving up an average of three runs per start, while averaging just 4.3 innings of work in that time. Also, in his last three starts, Albers’ WHIP is 1.579.
The A’s are playing well this September, going 12-5, while the Twins are sitting at 7-10 during the month. The Twins are 49-65 against right handed starters, while the A’s are a solid 30-21 against lefties.
This game is a no play for me personally. The A’s should win, but there is no value at this price. I considered taking Oakland with the run line here, but the A’s bullpen has been suspect lately, and Oakland needed arms out of the ‘pen last night as Straily went just five and two thirds. For my free pick, I am going under the total here. Two of the last three games for each of these starters have gone under the total.
