The Cleveland Indians and the Houston Astros face-off on Saturday after rain shortened their game on Friday.
The Cleveland Indians didn’t have to play a full nine innings, but they played long enough to get the win and that was enough to get them into the lead for a Wildcard spot. Carlos Santana, Ryan Raburn, Michael Brantley, and Mike Aviles each had hits as the Indians scored two runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Zach McAllister allowed four hits and a run over 5.0 innings to get the win and Bryan Shaw earned the save. For Saturday’s game, the Indians start Scott Kazmir who is 8-9 with 4.34 ERA for the season and 1-2 with a 4.20 ERA in his last three starts.

The Houston Astros have a chance to play spoiler as they can knock the Indians out of a Wildcard spot in the American League. Brandon Laird hit a home run and Chris Carter and Brandon Laird each had hits and the Astros scored one run on four hits. Starting pitcher Brett Oberholtzer allowed four hits and two runs over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game, the Astros start Paul Clemens, who is 4-5 with a 5.44 ERA for the season and 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA in his last three starts.
Cleveland is 7-2 in their last nine games, 20-8 in game three of a series, and 2-5 in Kazmir’s last seven starts. Houston is 21-54 in their last 75 games, and 17-60 against a team with a winning record.
Cleveland just has a ton to play for and if they can’t dig deep enough to get it, that would be a surprise
