Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets Free Pick 9/22/13
2013-09-22 12:35:00 EDT
The Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets face off on Sunday in Philadelphia as they close out their series.
The Philadelphia Phillies rallied on Saturday but with the game being called early they never got a chance to complete their comeback. Darin Ruf had two hits and Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins had hits as the Phillies scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Tyler Cloyd allowed six hits and five runs over 5.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Phillies start Cliff Lee who is 14-6 with a 2.95 ERA for the season and 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA in his last three starts.
The New York Mets will go back to the drawing board this season but on Saturday they grabbed a win in Philadelphia. Daniel Murphy and David Wright hit home runs and Travis d’Arnaud had two hits as the Mets scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Dillon Gee allowed seven hits and four runs over 6.0 innings to get the win. For Sunday’s game the Mets start Carlos Torres who is 3-5 with a 3.39 ERA for the year and he is 0-3 with a 5.82 ERA in his last three starts.
Philadelphia is 8-3 in their last 11 home games, 10-2 in their last 12 games as a home favorite, and 7-2 in Lee’s last nine starts as a home favorite. New York is 3-7 in game three of a series, 7-17 as an underdog, and 1-4 in Torres last five starts. New York is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The Mets have been a stronger team on the road all season but Lee is in form and pitching well and I have to give him and the Phillies the nod here.
