The Washington Nationals can keep their playoff aspirations alive with a win over visiting Miami.
The Marlins haven't been faring well in the final weeks of 2013, but they are still dangerous in my view, with enough pitching to cause problems to opponents. Just as I talk about pitching, the Fish struggled mightily in that area in an 8-0 defeat at Washington Friday, which was loss number eight in eleven contests. Jacob Turner gave up five runs in 5.1 frames, with the pen having no success either. The offense didn't help the situation with only a pair of hits and a BB and obviously didn't challenge. Miami sends Tom Koehler to the bump to slow the surging Nationals on Saturday. Koehler did not get a decision in a 1-0 loss at the Mets when he tossed a three hit shut out covering eight innings.

The Nationals are one of the hottest teams in all of baseball, but one has to wonder if it's all too late. The best Washington can hope for is the Wild Card, with Atlanta's magic number down to one. The Nats are doing their best to keep the light on their playoff dreams with Saturdday's victory with wins in nine of eleven with generally good hitting and pitching leading the way. Both units were at their very best Saturday, with Jordan Zimmerman tossing a complete game two hit shutout, while striking out eight. The offense pounded out eleven hits, with Denard Span and Jason Werth driving in two runs apiece. Washington is scheduleed to send Stephen Strasburg to the hill if his sore foream is healthy. Miami last faced these same Marlins in his last start, where he gave up four runs over six frames in a 6-4 victory.
Strasburg is a huge favorite, which makes me edgy in a game I don't see a ton of value in, if you like the home team. No play for me because I don't trust Strasburg, but I'll back the Nats offense...
