The Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves close out their series in Chicago on Sunday.
The Chicago Cubs are playing for the future and they are looking to at least hold off the Braves clinching of the N.L. East one more day. On Saturday, Starlin Castro and Brian Bogusevic each had two hits and Anthony Rizzo added a hit as the Cubs scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Travis wood allowed five hits and a run while striking out seven over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Carlos Villanueva got the win and Pedro Strop earned the save. For Sunday’s game, the Cubs start Edwin Jackson, who is 8-16 with a 4.75 ERA for the season and 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in his last three starts.

The Atlanta Braves are still a win away from clinching the National league East, although it looked like they were going to get it done Saturday. Chris Johnson had two hits and Justin Upton and Freddie Freeman added hits as the braves scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Kris Medlen allowed six hits and a run while striking out six over 7.1 innings, but Scott Downs blew the save and took the loss. For Sunday’s game, the Braves start Julio Teheran, who is 12-8 with a 3.14 ERA for the season and 2-1 with a 3.66 ERA in his last three starts.
Chicago is 17-35 in their last 52 games, 8-22 in their last 30 home games, and 1-7 in Jackson’s last eight starts. Atlanta is 26-13 against a team with a losing record, 2-5 against a right-handed starter, and 7-3 in Teheran’s last eight starts. Atlanta is 5-1 in the last six meetings of these two.
Jackson has had is worst season and I believe that trend continues here as the Braves win it and celebrate.
