The Cleveland Indians and the Houston Astros close out their series as they face off on Sunday in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Indians control their own destiny and with a win on Saturday, they maintained their spot in the A.L. Wildcard race. Michael Brantley hit a home run, Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits, and Michael Bourn had two hits as the Indians scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir allowed four hits and struck out eight over 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win and Joe Smith got the save. For Sunday’s game, the Indians start Cory Kluber who is 9-5 with a 3.62 ERA for the season and 2-0 with a 4.30 ERA in his last three starts.

The Houston Astros are destined to finish with the worst record in baseball, but this team hasn’t quit once all year. On Saturday, Chris Carter had three hits, including a home run and Jonathan Villar and L.J. Hoes each had hits as the Astros scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Paul Clemens allowed eight hits and four runs over 4.2 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game, the Astros start Erik Bedard who is 4-11 with a 4.60 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 7.62 ERA in his last three starts.
Cleveland is 7-2 in their last nine games, 4-0 at home against a left-handed starter, and 5-1 in Kluber’s last six starts. Houston is 21-55 in their last 76 games, 17-61 against a team with a winning record, and 0-7 in Bedard’s last seven road starts. Houston is 0-5 in last five meetings of these two.
Look for Cleveland to continue their march towards the post season as they are just the better team and this is what they have been playing for all year.
