The San Francisco Giants look to avoid getting swept out of the Big Apple by the New York Yankees.
Although San Francisco has been playing some improved baseball as of late, there will be no postseason or even .500 record to look back on. It's been a big fall from World Series champs to fighting to stay out of the National League West basement, but this happens in an unpredictable sport. Things didn't improve Saturday in a 6-0 loss to the Yankees, where the bats and arms both struggled with starter Ryan Vogelsong giving up five runs over five frames to fall to 3-6. They received a pair of hits from Pablo Sandoval and Brandon Belt, but little else. The Giants turn to Yusmeiro Petit to the bump Sunday, looking to stay unbeaten. Petit gave up four runs over seven innings to upend the Mets 8-5.

The Yankees made a valiant run to stay in the postseason race in 2013 as injuries, age and poor play eventually caught up to them. New York looks to finish the season strong and took a step in that direction with Saturday's victory behind outstanding work on the mound and at the plate. Starter Ivan Nova came up with his best performance of the year with a complete game, six hit shut out while striking out seven. The bats didn't pound the ball with a seven hit, three walk attack that saw Eduardo Nunez crack a two run bomb while Alphonso Soriano went solo. Veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte takes the ball for his second to last start of his career on Sunday. Pettitte has been the steadiest member of the Yankees rotation with seven consecutive quality starts.
When we look at the respective records it says the Yankees have been the better team. I think the Yankees want this one badly for Pettitte and that's my bet...
