The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds finish out their pivotal series in the N.L. Central on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates saw their hopes of winning the National League Central getting away from them, but they gave themselves a glimmer of hope by getting the win over the Reds on Saturday. Russell Martin hit a home run, Jose Tabata had two hits, and Pedro Alvarez had a hit as the Pirates scored four runs on five hits. Starting pitcher A.J. Burnett allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out 12 over 7.0 innings to get the win and Jason Grilli earned the save. For Sunday’s game, the Pirates start Jeff Locke, who is 10-6 with a 3.27 ERA for the season and 1-2 with a 3.71 ERA in his last three starts.

The Cincinnati Reds had the big comeback win on Friday, but they were unable to repeat that feat on Saturday as they took the loss. Zack Cozart hit a home run, Ryan Ludwick had two hits, and Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips each had hits as the Reds scored two runs on five hits. Starting pitcher Homer Bailey allowed three hits and four runs over 5.2 innings taking the loss. For Sunday’s game, the Reds start Bronson Arroyo, who is 13-11 with a 3.56 ERA for the season and 0-1 with a 2.66 ERA in his last three starts.
Pittsburgh is 2-4 in their last six games, 37-17 in their last 54 home games, and 1-4 in Locke’s last five starts as a favorite. Cincinnati is 4-1 in their last five road games, 4-1 in their last five games against a left-handed starter, and 0-4 in Arroyo’s last four starts.
This should be another tight one, but look for the Reds to come through and get the win.
