The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays conclude their series at Tropicana Field on Sunday.
As an Orioles fan I had this feeling over the past month that something was amiss with the Birds and the postseason wasn't in their future. Unfortunately, that feeling was right, as inconsistency at the plate and mound hurt the team with a potent offense not so potent. Nothing went in the Oroles favor on Sunday in a 5-1 defeat at Tropicana Field. Miguel Gonzalez gave up three runs over six frames with Francisco Rodriguez allowing two more to put this out of reach. The bats failed to get any thing going, with Adam Jones RBI single in the 9th breaking up the shutout. Scott Feldman will be on the hill to salvage the final game of the series aginst Tampa Bay. Feldman has been rock solid over his last seven outings, with three runs given up just once in this span.

Tampa Bay isn't going to win the American League East title so they've set their sights on capturing one of the Wild Cards and the home field advantage in it as well. The Rays are right in the middle of this goal, but can't let their guard down with a week remaining in the season. Following Saturday's win, the Rays have won seven of ten with outstanding pitching and hiting getting the job done Sunday, with Alex Cobb dominating the Baltimore lineup with a run scored over 8.1 innings, while striking out 12. Desmond Jennings was a one man wrecking crew at the plate, with a three run homer and RBI triple. Tampa Bay brings Roberto Hernandez out of the bullpen to face off with the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Hernandez was struggling in the rotation and demoted to the bullpen where he has made six appearances in a row.
I'd be cautious in backing Baltimore because I believe they have the advantage on the mound and should score runs, but that's been the case many times in the past weeks and that hasn't turned in to winning...
