The Miami Marlins will be face off against the Nationals in Washington on Sunday.
The Washington Nationals host the Marlins on Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader. Since Saturday’s game was postponed, I’ll jump back to Friday night’s game for a breakdown. On Friday, the Nats took care of business against the Marlins, beating up on Miami 8-0. The Nationals got an exceptional performance from Zimmerman on the night, who pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just two hits and walking one, while striking out nine. Washington will likely have Dan Haren on the mound as there has been no reported pitching change yet for the Nats. Haren is 9-13 this season, with an ERA of 4.88 and a WHIP of 1.25.

The Miami Marlins had no answer for Zimmerman on Friday, but thanks to Mother Nature, the Marlins had an extra day to put that game behind them, and hopefully get back on track Sunday when the Marlins face the Nats in game one of the doubleheader. The Marlins started Turner on Friday against the Nationals, and Turner didn’t fare so well against Washington, as the Marlins starter gave up five runs off of seven hits in just five and one thirds innings of work. The Marlins originally had Flynn penciled in to start, but now Miami has had a pitching change due to the doubleheader, and the Marlins will start Tom Koehler instead. Koehler has struggled for the Marlins this season, going just 3-10 on the year, with an ERA of 4.64 and a WHIP of 1.42.
The Nationals have been killing it in the month of September, going 15-4 overall, while the Marlins are struggling this month, just going 7-13. Also, the Nats are 11-4 when playing with a day off, while the Marlins are just 6-10 this season when playing with a day break.
Neither Haren nor Koehler has been exactly solid this season, but in this spot I trust Haren just a bit more. The Nats starter is 1-1, with an ERA of 3.60 and a WHIP of 1.000 in his last three starts and when starting on the road this season, Koehler is 0-3 with an ERA of 4.77 and a WHIP of 1.563. I normally don't play run lines, but I just don't trust the Marlins at all in this spot. The Nats are playing well lately, and Koehler has gotten shelled all season long, especially in his last seven starts, where his ERA is above 4.700. Take the Nats with the run line here on Sunday.
