The Arizona Diamondbacks visit Petco Park to face the rival San Diego Padres.
The Diamondbacks lone goal is to finish 2013 with a winning record and it's been mission accomplished over the past few weeks. The Snakes took a 13-9 decision at Coors Field on Suday for win number seven of eleven to move three games above the .500 mark. Offense was center stage Sunday, with Patrick Corbin charged with four runs in 4.1 frames, while the pen hung on. The arms needed help and got plenty of support, with Zona pounding out 19 hits with Matt Davidson cracking a three-run homer and driving in four, while three others knocked in two each. The Diamondbacks give Monday's assignment on the mound to Brandon McCarthy, who has thrown three straight quality starts. In these outings, McCarthy has given up six runs in 20 frames.

San Diego has been playing solid baseball over the past several weeks, but have struggled to score runs over the week end and have dropped three of four. The Padres fell to Greinke and the visiting Dodgers 1-0 and have not scored in back to back contests. Overall, SD has plated tree runs in four game so it will be interesting to see what the bats do in the final week. Andrew Cashner was the hard luck loser, with an unearned run plated on four hits over seven innings. The bats simply ran in to a hot hurler and were stymied on two hits and three bases on balls and never threatened. Left-hander Eric Stults gets the ball verus the Diamondbacks in the series opener Monday. Stults picked up a 5-2 victory at Pittsburgh last time out, with both runs given up on seven hits over five innings.
Stults has the ability to throw well and has, while McCarthy has been doing well so if he does continue his hot pitching I like him with the Zona bats behind him...
